T-Tape Method

Proper marking and even attachment are essential. Tension should feel firm but not painful. Growth occurs gradually as the skin adapts over time. Many restorers report working within ranges such as 8–16 ounces of tension and 12–20 in-H₂O inflation pressure. Always begin on the low end, then increase gradually based on comfort, routine, and progress.

Step-by-Step POE Marking and T-Tape Application

  1. Prepare and tension the skin: Gently pull the shaft skin forward toward the glans under light tension. Allow the skin to slide naturally while identifying the point where inner and outer skin are evenly balanced. This subtle balanced point is your POE.
  2. Pinch and mark: At the balanced rollover point, lightly pinch the skin tube between two fingers and make a small dash mark with a surgical marker. This captures the precise line where the tape will sit.
  3. Complete the guide ring: Repeat the pinch-and-mark process around the circumference until you have about four evenly spaced dashes, forming a complete POE guide ring.
  4. Apply the T-tape: Stick the middle of the adhesive strip onto the marked line, stretching the skin lightly as you stick the tape around the circumference. Ensure it sits evenly over the POE guide.

For dedicated T-tape restorers, adjusting the scar line to serve as the POE reference can make tape placement clearer and faster. I recommend taping just below the scar line, on the outer shaft skin only. This improves adhesive grip and helps maintain an ideal inner‑to‑outer skin ratio as restoration progresses.

Adhesive Load Rotation

Long-term T-tape use places repeated adhesive load on the same section of skin. Alternating the position of the tape slightly above or below the previous placement allows previously adhered skin to recover while maintaining consistent tension.

This rotation strategy may help reduce localized irritation, itching, or adhesive sensitivity over time. By distributing contact stress across a broader zone, overall skin tolerance can improve and restoration can continue more sustainably.

T-Tape Inflation Method

Inflation with T-tape allows for total area expansion. When constructed with multidirectional stretch material, the adhered inner and outer layer distributes expansion evenly to the underlying skin, producing uniform outward expansion across a broader section of tissue.

TAC T-Tape Application Overview

This instructional video demonstrates TAC T-tape (Tattoo Aftercare Tape) application using a flexible model to clearly show application, T-tape construction, and the O-ring line. To increase effeciency, pre cut the full roll of tape. Also repeat each step 3 - 10 times for mass production. Video contains no anatomical nudity.

Additional step-by-step details and material information are provided in the video description. Or see below.

Tattoo Aftercare T-tape, or TAC T-tape. Tattoo AC tape uses an all directional 4-way stretchy tape more suitable for T-tape inflation. It can also be used for regular T-tape use. It is more oil and water resistant compared to other tapes. Use it for backing, T-tape, covering the urethra from direct air inflation, or for reinforcing the split ends on T-tape if it came unstuck. Video notes below:

1) This is a clear silicone mat used for preventing the adhesive from sticking to the work surface.

2) A handy cheater stick used for quick measurements for where to cut the tape length at and to mark the O-ring index lines.

3) Backing paper is used to help preserve the T-tapes when making more than one at a time. Backing paper found from Tattoo After Care Tape works great for T-tape backing. First mark two parallel lines, then fold in half by lining up the lines to each other. Backing paper can be reused.

4) Place the ruler on the edge of the backing to help hold down the backing. Angle the tape 30 degrees onto the backing and place directly under the line. Stick the tape onto the backing all at once. Try not to get any overlap at the left and right edges.

5) Remove the top half of the clear backing grid. Gently lift the other half up but avoid lifting where the backing is at. Fold it back to apply K-tape.

6) Use only one layer of Kinesiology tape to help thicken the fastening area. Aim for some overlap on the right side.

7) This is another T-tape I prepared in advance. It demonstrates how to use the alternative split end method. At the split ends either trim a slither of the backing as seen in video, or rip the backing in half to split. Place a tiny backing strip for the outer adhesive strip. The inner strip doesn't need one.

8) These are the markings on the cheater stick for how long to cut each tape at. Tattoo tape 14cm, Kinesiology 15cm, and T-tape with split ends 16cm. You'll have to use trial and error to figure your magic number that works for your girth. Usually what works is girth circumference minus 0.5cm.

9) This is an extra length Water Wiggler toy. To apply T-tape, first get erect, point the fastening area towards the body, lightly stretch the skin and stick, stretch and stick, flip, stretch and stick. Even while sticking the split ends, stretch skin and stick. When sticking the split ends try to apply one half at a time when removing the clear backing. Tattoo AC tape sticks very well to itself unlike fabric or paper medical tape.

10) Here I'm hydrating the skin with an oil blend from a vile drop applicator: Jojoba 85% / Argan 15%. Apply oil to both inner and outer skin. Humectants can also help prep the the skin before applying oils. I take it one step further with richer oil blends while resting at night and transitions after tugging for a 1 hour break from tension. Regarding oils, humectants, and blends, please do your own research on this and consult a dermatologist or other medical professional. I am not a health or medical expert. Different skin types can respond differently to certain oils. Allergic reactions may happen, patch test first.

11) For taping away from POE. Use a trimmed 1/4" silicone band to help locate where to mark the skin with regards to the scar line. The length of this band should be the same width of the T-tape adhesive width. Mark a dot then recheck the length and mark a dash just like in the video. Do this 6 times evenly spaced around the circumference. Make sure to stretch the skin when marking POD. This allows for alternating where you tape at on the shaft skin. Personally I noticed not being itchy anymore. Itchiness isn't a sign of growth, it's a sign of irritation, inflammation, histamine release, or micro skin tears.

*Do not use a permanent marker to mark the skin with. Only use a tattoo or medical skin marker.

12) Fold the T-tape fastening area in an X shape, then clip a suspender clip to it. Use an elastic band or weight to apply tension.

13) This line helps align the O-ring to tension the T-tape evenly. Use the back side of the cheater ruler to help mark the index increments onto the fastening area. Place the edge of the cheater stick to the edge of the T-tape adhesive. These increments work well: 27mm, 30mm, 33mm, 36mm.

FAQ

Tape inflation depends heavily on material properties and stretch characteristics. Not all medical tapes perform equally under multidirectional expansion. Micropore tape isn’t ideal for T-tape inflation because it can become sticky under compression and tear easily. Mefix tape is also prone to ripping under multidirectional load. For more consistent performance, Hypafix, Cover-Roll Stretch, kinesiology tape, or Hion tattoo aftercare tape are commonly used alternatives.

For medical stretch tape, 6" rolls are typically used for inflation because their primary stretch axis better supports circumferential expansion. For kinesiology tape, 2" rolls are commonly used to complement the base medical tape layer and assist with directional reinforcement. For tattoo aftercare tape, 2" rolls allow for more precise construction and application control during T-tape assembly.

Tension should be firm but never painful. Discomfort, blanching of skin (whiteness), or development of scabs or red bumps are signs to stop. Stay on the light side of tension if not taking interval breaks. At lower CI levels restorers should use lighter tension because the available skin has to absorb the entire force. As more skin grows, the same force becomes distributed across a larger area. 8 ounces today might feel like 6 ounces in a couple years. Tension varies between skin type and ci level. Adjust based on comfort, routine, and progress. Stay hydrated and keep moisturized.

Another thing to note, when adjusting the scar line to become POE, most if not all tension is focused on one side of the T-tape adhesive. Use half the tension you normally would use. Increase tension higher as the scar line nears POE. When tape isn't at POE the adhesive acts in a peel state instead of a shear distribuited hold across the entire skin.

Not typically, unless higher-than-recommended pressure or tension levels are used. Manual tensioning methods used in combination with T-taping are more likely to reduce adhesive longevity.

Inflation itself shouldn’t cause the POE scar line to shift even while alternating tape positions. However, grip style devices (non tape devices) may slow the growth of inner skin, so some readjusting may be needed.
